Went to Cinemalaya with my friends last July 18 and I was able to watch Ligo Na U, Lapit Na Me, i-Libings, and an Indonesian Film called Chants of Lotus.
Ligo na U, Lapit na Me, I found this film a little boring. Maybe because of the music used. They almost used the same music in every sex scene on the film which is really annoying. For me music really plays an important role in one movie. It sets the mood on a given scene. Acting wasn’t convincing after all, I also hate to admit meet that I am not a fan of those cheesy lines which other people seem to enjoy.
On the other hand, i-Libings is a much better. The movie is about funeral videography intern's journey to life realiztion on life and death. Lead role Isabel was portrayed by Glaiza De Castro. Thumbs up on her acting. Some good music was used on this movie not sure about all the soundtrack, but the musical score was done with the help of the well known Diego Mapa of Pedicab. Notable scene here as well is when Glaiza was wearing the Control shirt. If you're a music fan you know what I am talking about.
It's past nine when we go to the last movie and it was Indonesia's Chants of Lotus. I was not sure why my friends chose this movie, I want to watch Isda but I don't have the choice, lol! My friends already bought some tickets and there we go. Its a collection of four short film from four female Indonesian directors. I guess this is the typical Asian Indie film shows the reality on what is happening around us. First film is about a special child who got raped and get pregnant and ended having an illegal abortion. Second, was about a journalist that pretends a college boy because he wants to write an article about teen sex and how the young ones are handling those situations. The third one is about human trafficking and the last one is about a mother who is positive to HIV/AIDS who only wants her daughter to be happy.
I am not a movie critic and I wish I was able to watched all the films but sadly time didn't permit us.
